Escondida means hidden, and the house earns the name in a way that is unusual this close to town. It sits behind a gate on just over an acre of hillside, up a paved and planted drive, screened enough that you would not know it was there — and yet Quepos is a few minutes down the hill. Most properties on this coast trade seclusion against convenience. This one largely refuses to.
The Arrival
The drive opens into an enclosed entrance courtyard, lit for the evening, and a covered gazebo-style entry. There is a second way in through the mudroom and laundry, straight into the kitchen, which sounds like a small thing until you have carried a week of groceries around a house that lacks one. The front door itself is a custom solid-wood pivot.
Inside
Roughly 3,500 square feet, finished in Italian flooring and built in 2025, so nothing here needs doing. The plan is open, and the kitchen sits deliberately near the entrance with full circulation around an island seating four. It is properly equipped — gas range, built-in microwave and recirculation fan, French-door refrigerator with an ice maker, dishwasher, and a large pantry behind generous upper and lower cabinetry.
Living and dining run on from the kitchen behind walls of glass, so the tropical garden does most of the decorating. The dining table is a single manufactured-stone slab seating eight, set parallel to the outdoor kitchen so the two rooms work as one when you are entertaining. A half bath with high ceilings and tall windows sits off the living area.
Three Suites, Equally Treated
All three bedrooms are primaries, and I mean that literally rather than as a figure of speech — each has a king bed on a custom floating frame, high ceilings, a walk-in closet with built-in wardrobes, an en-suite with dual white quartz vanities, and its own private terrace with a heated outdoor shower. Two are in the main house. The third is detached beside the pool, which makes it the obvious guest suite, or the obvious place to put an office if guests are rarer than work.
The Pool and the Terraces
Covered terraces run the length of the pool, with shade at one end and loungers at the other. The outdoor kitchen is built around a four-burner Napoleon grill. The pool itself has a large submerged platform, stairs at both ends and built-in bench seating, and enough lighting options to be worth swimming in after dark rather than just looking at.
What Comes With the Position
Marina Pez Vela, the hospital, the airport and the restaurants are all about five minutes away. The other side of it is that the property backs directly onto the wildlife corridor running into Manuel Antonio National Park, so the jungle behind the house is working land for a troop of howler monkeys, and scarlet macaws, toucans and white-tailed deer come through. You do not go looking for the wildlife here. It arrives.
